Description

These oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are a delightful treat with a perfect balance of chewiness and sweetness. Packed with oats, chocolate chips, and optional nuts, these cookies are a favorite for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix-Ins:

  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Add Mix-Ins: Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, and nuts if using.
  6. Bake: Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra chewy cookies, slightly underbake them and allow them to finish setting on the baking sheet.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
