Description

This Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sausage Pasta is a flavorful and satisfying dish that combines smoky sausage with a tangy barbecue sauce, perfect for a quick and easy dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Pasta:

  • 12 ounces pasta (penne or rotini)

BBQ Sausage:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound smoked sausage (sliced into rounds)
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 green onions (sliced)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta: Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sear the sausage: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes. Remove sausage and set aside.
  3. Sauté onions and garlic: In the same skillet, sauté the onion and garlic until softened and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  4. Prepare the sauce: Stir in barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and chili powder. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Combine ingredients: Return the sausage to the skillet, then add the cooked pasta and toss to coat evenly in the sauce.
  6. Melt the cheese: Reduce heat to low, sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese, and cover until melted.
  7. Serve: Garnish with green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or use a spicy barbecue sauce.
  • This dish can also be baked—transfer to a casserole dish, top with cheese, and bake at 375°F for 15 minutes.
  • Leftovers reheat well the next day.
