Ingredients
Scale
Steak Bites
- 500 g (1 lb) sirloin or flank steak, cut into bite-sized cubes
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
Glaze
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
Garnish
- Green onions or sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Season and Coat: In a bowl, season the steak bites with salt and pepper, then toss with cornstarch until each piece is lightly coated.
- Sear the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add half the steak bites and sear for about 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside. Repeat the process with the remaining steak bites.
- Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil if needed. Add minced garlic and grated ginger (if using), and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Prepare the Glaze: Add soy sauce and honey or brown sugar to the skillet. Stir and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
- Combine Steak and Glaze: Return the seared steak bites to the skillet. Toss them in the sticky glaze until fully coated and heated through, ensuring every bite is flavorful.
- Serve and Garnish: Garnish the steak bites with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot over rice, mashed potatoes, or your favorite roasted vegetables.
Notes
- For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce in step 4.
- If you prefer a thicker glaze, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water and add to the sauce while simmering.
- Make sure to cut steak into uniform pieces for even cooking.
- Use a high smoke point oil if preferred, such as avocado oil, instead of olive oil for searing.
- This dish pairs well with steamed rice or roasted vegetables for a balanced meal.
