Description

These Spicy Garlic and Sesame Fries are a flavorful twist on classic baked fries, featuring a crispy exterior, a garlicky sesame sauce, and a kick of sriracha. Perfect as a savory side or a snack, they combine Asian-inspired flavors with simple ingredients for a delicious vegan treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Fries

  • 2 large russet potatoes, cut into thin fries
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Spicy Garlic Sesame Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or chili garlic sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Garnish

  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Optional: chopped cilantro or extra chili flakes for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fries: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Toss the cut potatoes with 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Spread them evenly in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  2. Bake the fries: Place the fries in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even crispiness and golden brown texture.
  3. Make the sauce: While the fries bake, heat the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant but not browned. Stir in the sriracha, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, then remove the pan from heat.
  4. Toss fries in sauce: Once the fries are done, transfer them to a large bowl. Drizzle the spicy garlic sesame sauce over the fries and toss gently to coat each fry evenly with the sauce.
  5. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top. Add optional chopped cilantro or extra chili flakes if desired. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

  • For extra crispy fries, soak the cut potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before baking, then dry them thoroughly.
  • You can also cook these fries in an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  • Adjust the amount of sriracha according to your preferred spice level.
  • These fries are best enjoyed fresh to maintain their crispiness.
