Description

This Slow Cooker Chicken Shawarma recipe is a flavorful Middle Eastern dish made with tender, spiced chicken that is perfect for filling pita bread or flatbreads. The chicken is marinated in a blend of aromatic spices and cooked low and slow until juicy and delicious.

Marinade:

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs

  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Marinade: In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, and cayenne if using.
  2. Marinate Chicken: Add chicken thighs and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best flavor.
  3. Cook in Slow Cooker: Place marinated chicken in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours, until tender and fully cooked.
