Scale
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 8 to 10 fresh sage leaves
- 1 clove garlic (minced, optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for finishing)
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sage leaves and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until butter is golden and fragrant and the sage leaves are crisp.
- If using, add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
- Serve immediately drizzled over pasta, gnocchi, ravioli, roasted vegetables, or chicken. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese before serving if desired.
Notes
- Watch closely as butter can go from golden to burnt quickly.
- For a nuttier flavor, let the butter brown slightly before adding lemon juice.
- This sauce is best served fresh but can be reheated gently on the stovetop.
