Description

These Puff Pastry Cinnamon Rolls are a quick and easy twist on classic cinnamon rolls, using frozen puff pastry for a flaky, buttery texture. Perfect for a sweet breakfast or delightful snack, they come together in under 40 minutes and are drizzled with a smooth maple-flavored glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry and Filling

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry (17.3 ounces each)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 – 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar (130 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon maple flavoring or vanilla extract
  • 3-5 tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375º Fahrenheit (190º Celsius) and line a 12×17 inch baking pan with parchment paper or use a nonstick baking mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Unwrap the frozen puff pastry sheets and allow them to thaw slightly at room temperature so they are pliable but still cool.
  3. Spread Filling & Roll: Evenly spread the softened salted butter over each pastry sheet. Sprinkle the packed light brown sugar and ground cinnamon evenly over the buttered sheets. Carefully roll each sheet tightly into a log shape.
  4. Cut the Rolls: Using a sharp knife, cut each rolled pastry into 12 even pieces, creating individual cinnamon rolls.
  5. Arrange and Bake: Place the cinnamon rolls cut side up on the prepared baking tray, spacing them slightly apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed.
  6. Make the Glaze: While the rolls bake, combine the powdered sugar, maple flavoring (or vanilla extract), and 3-5 tablespoons of heavy cream or whole milk in a bowl. Mix until smooth to a pourable consistency.
  7. Glaze and Serve: Remove the baked rolls from the oven and drizzle the glaze over them while they are still warm. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is not completely thawed to maintain flakiness when baking.
  • You can substitute maple flavoring with vanilla extract depending on preference.
  • The glaze thickness can be adjusted by adding more or less cream or milk.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container and reheat gently before serving.
  • For an extra touch, sprinkle chopped nuts or raisins inside before rolling.
