Description

This Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce is a vibrant, tangy, and spicy condiment combining fresh pineapple sweetness with the fiery kick of habanero peppers. Perfect for adding zest to meats, tacos, or grilled vegetables, this homemade sauce offers a balanced flavor profile with a hint of lime and garlic.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh pineapple, chopped
  • 23 habanero peppers, stemmed and seeded (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Chop the fresh pineapple, stem and seed the habanero peppers carefully to reduce heat if desired, mince the garlic, and chop the onion.
  2. Sauté Onion and Garlic: Heat a small amount of oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Combine and Simmer: Add the chopped pineapple, habanero peppers, white vinegar, lime juice, and salt to the saucepan. Stir everything together and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to meld the flavors.
  4. Blend the Sauce: Remove the saucepan from heat, let the mixture cool slightly, then transfer it to a blender. Blend until smooth, adjusting the consistency with additional vinegar or water if necessary.
  5. Adjust Seasoning and Sweetness: Taste the sauce and adjust with more salt or lime juice as needed. If you prefer a sweeter flavor, blend in the optional honey and mix thoroughly.
  6. Bottle and Store: Pour the finished sauce into sterilized bottles or jars. Let it cool completely before sealing. Store the hot sauce in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.

Notes

  • Handle habanero peppers with gloves to avoid skin irritation.
  • Adjust the number of habanero peppers depending on your heat preference.
  • The sauce can be thinned with water or more vinegar if too thick.
  • Use sterilized bottles or jars to prolong shelf life and maintain freshness.
  • Shake well before each use as ingredients may settle.
