Ingredients
Scale
For the Beef Patties:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
For the Sautéed Vegetables:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
For Assembly:
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
- Mayonnaise for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef Patties: In a large bowl, mix ground beef, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce until just combined. Shape into 4 patties.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms, cooking for 5–6 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized. Remove vegetables from skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Patties: Cook burger patties in the same skillet (or on a grill) for 4–5 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with provolone cheese and cover until melted.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place patties on toasted buns, top with sautéed vegetables, and add mayonnaise if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
- For extra flavor, butter and toast the buns on the skillet after cooking the vegetables.
- You can also swap provolone for American or Swiss cheese.
