Description

Learn how to make the perfect baked potato with crispy skin and fluffy insides. This easy side dish is a classic favorite that pairs well with a variety of toppings.

Ingredients

Potatoes:

4 large russet potatoes

Olive Oil Mixture:

1 tablespoon olive oil

Kosher Salt:

1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. Scrub the potatoes thoroughly under running water and pat them completely dry. Use a fork to poke several holes in each potato to allow steam to escape during baking. Rub each potato with olive oil, then sprinkle generously with kosher salt. Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or a baking sheet lined with a rack for even air circulation.

  3. Bake Potatoes: Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until the skins are crispy and a fork easily pierces the center.
  4. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. To serve, slice the top open lengthwise, gently squeeze the ends to fluff the inside, and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For extra crisp skin, skip wrapping the potatoes in foil.
  • Great toppings include sour cream, butter, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits, or steamed broccoli.
