Description

This Peanut Butter Cake Recipe is a rich and moist sheet cake perfect for peanut butter lovers. The cake combines creamy peanut butter in the batter with a luscious peanut butter frosting on top, creating a deliciously indulgent dessert that’s easy to make and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

For the peanut butter frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish to ensure the cake doesn’t stick.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents and salt throughout the flour.
  3. Cream wet ingredients and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, creamy peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, which will help create a tender cake texture.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then mix in the vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture. Mix gently just until combined to avoid overworking the batter.
  6. Pour and bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cake: Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan to room temperature before frosting, preventing the frosting from melting.
  8. Make the frosting: In a bowl, beat together the softened butter and peanut butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar. Mix in the vanilla extract and 2–3 tablespoons of milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired frosting consistency.
  9. Frost the cake: Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake and slice into servings.

Notes

  • Add chopped peanuts or chocolate chips to the batter for extra texture and flavor.
  • Store the cake covered at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
  • Refrigerate for longer freshness, and bring to room temperature before serving for best flavor and texture.
