- 1/4 cup whole wheat flour or oat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, maple syrup (or honey), applesauce, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Add dry ingredients: Add the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and salt to the bowl and stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and slice: Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
