  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • Fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Boil salted water and cook pasta until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: Sauté garlic and onion in olive oil. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, herbs, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15–20 minutes.
  3. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Toss cooked pasta in the sauce, adding reserved pasta water if needed.
  4. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese.
