Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables
- 5 strips yellow pickled radish, cut into long, thin pieces (2.8 inches x 0.4 inches)
- 220 g carrots, cut into lengths 2.8 inches and width 0.4 inches
- 15 g green onion, green part only, finely chopped
Meats and Seafood
- 5 strips BBQ kimbap ham, sliced to 2.8 inches x 0.4 inches
- 8 sticks imitation crab, cut into similar sizes
Coating and Seasoning
- 1/2 cup plain flour (for crispy finish)
- 1 tsp fine salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 3 eggs, beaten
- Oil, for frying (quantity as needed)
Instructions
- Preparation: Cut the yellow pickled radish, BBQ ham, imitation crab sticks, carrots, and green onion into pieces approximately 2.8 inches (7 cm) long and 0.4 inches (1 cm) wide for uniform cooking and easy skewering.
- Cook Carrots: Preheat a frying pan over medium-high heat and add a splash of oil. Reduce heat to medium-low, then lightly cook the carrot sticks for 2 to 3 minutes until tender but still vibrant in color. Remove from pan and set aside to cool slightly.
- Cook Ham: In the same pan, cook the BBQ ham over medium-low heat for 2 to 3 minutes until warmed through and slightly crisp on the edges. Remove and set aside with the carrots.
- Assemble Skewers: Thread the prepared ingredients onto toothpicks by starting with the firmer items such as yellow pickled radish and ham on the outer sides, then layering softer ingredients like imitation crab sticks and carrot pieces in the middle.
- Prepare Coating: Mix the plain flour, fine salt, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl. Spread this seasoned flour mixture evenly on a small baking tray.
- Flour the Skewers: Lightly coat each assembled skewer in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess to ensure an even, thin layer for a crispy texture.
- Egg Dip and Fry: Dip each floured skewer into the beaten eggs ensuring full coverage. Grill the skewers in the pan over medium-low heat for 1 to 2 minutes per side until they are golden brown and cooked through.
Notes
- Using medium-low heat prevents burning the coating while ensuring the skewers are cooked through.
- Ensure all ingredients are cut evenly to promote uniform cooking and texture.
- These skewers can be served as appetizers or a main dish along with a dipping sauce or side salad.
- Use toothpicks or small skewers to hold the ingredients securely during frying.
- Feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables or meats as desired.
