Ingredients
Scale
Tofu
- 1 block firm tofu (14 oz), drained and pressed
Marinade
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
Garnish (optional)
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the Tofu: Drain and press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel, place a heavy object on top, and press for 15–20 minutes to ensure it absorbs the marinade well.
- Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, maple syrup (or honey), minced garlic, and grated fresh ginger until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Marinate the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into cubes or slices according to your preference. Place the tofu pieces in a shallow dish or a resealable zip-top bag, pour the marinade over them, toss gently to coat evenly, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours to absorb maximum flavor.
- Cook the Tofu: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil. Once hot, add the marinated tofu pieces and cook for 4–5 minutes on each side until they turn crispy and golden brown.
- Serve: Remove the tofu from the skillet and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if using. Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or in salads for a delicious meal.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu properly is essential for good texture and to help the tofu absorb the marinade flavors.
- If you prefer, you can use honey instead of maple syrup for a slightly different sweetness.
- Marinate the tofu for at least 30 minutes, but longer times (up to 2 hours) enhance the flavor more deeply.
- For a vegan option, choose maple syrup instead of honey.
- Use firm tofu for best results as it holds shape better during cooking and marination.
