Description

Jalapeño Fries are a spicy and crispy appetizer made from fresh jalapeños sliced into thin strips, breaded with a seasoned panko coating, and cooked until golden and crunchy. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, these jalapeño fries can be fried, baked, or air fried for a convenient and tasty treat served with ranch or chipotle mayo dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Jalapeño Fries

  • 1012 large fresh jalapeños
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying or spraying (if baking or air frying)
  • Ranch or chipotle mayo, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Cooking Equipment: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F if frying, preheat your oven to 425°F if baking, or preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
  2. Prepare Jalapeño Strips: Slice jalapeños lengthwise into thin strips, removing seeds and membranes for less heat if desired. This step controls the spice level and texture.
  3. Set Up Breading Station: Arrange three bowls: one with all-purpose flour, the second with beaten eggs, and the third with panko breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. This ensures an even and flavorful coating.
  4. Bread the Jalapeños: Dredge each jalapeño strip first in flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned panko breadcrumbs. This triple coating creates a crunchy outer layer.
  5. Cook the Jalapeño Fries: For frying, carefully place coated strips into the hot oil and cook in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy, then drain on paper towels. If baking, place strips on a wire rack over a baking sheet, spray them lightly with oil, and bake for 15–18 minutes until crisp. For air frying, cook the strips in a single layer for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking for even browning.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the jalapeño fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch or chipotle mayo for a delicious spicy snack or appetizer.

Notes

  • Leave some seeds in the jalapeños if you want extra spice.
  • For a cheesy twist, add finely grated Parmesan cheese to the panko mixture before breading.
  • These jalapeño fries are excellent toppings for burgers or tacos, adding a crunchy and spicy kick.
