Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- Flour for dusting
Cheese Filling
- ½ cup grated paneer
- ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
- ½ teaspoon garam masala
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Egg Wash
- 1 egg (beaten)
Instructions
- Prepare Oven and Work Surface: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly dust your work surface with flour to prevent sticking.
- Roll Out Puff Pastry: Roll the thawed puff pastry into a slightly thinner rectangle to make it easier to fold and fill.
- Make Cheese Mixture: In a small bowl, combine grated paneer, shredded cheddar, chopped cilantro, garam masala, chili powder, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the spices and herbs.
- Fill and Fold Pastry: Spread the cheese mixture evenly over half of the rolled puff pastry. Then fold the other half over the filling and gently press down to seal the edges and trap the filling inside.
- Cut and Twist: Cut the filled folded pastry into 1-inch wide strips. Take each strip and gently twist it several times to create a spiral shape.
- Place and Egg Wash: Arrange the twisted strips on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart to allow for puffing. Brush each twist lightly with the beaten egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake: Bake the twists in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the twists cool slightly before serving. They are delicious on their own or accompanied by chutney or raita.
Notes
- You can substitute paneer with crumbled feta cheese for a tangier flavor.
- These twists make a great snack, party appetizer, or side dish for Indian meals.
- Serve with your favorite chutney or a cooling raita for dipping.
- Ensure the puff pastry is well chilled before rolling to get the best flaky texture.
