For the Icing (Optional):

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • gel food coloring in Halloween colors (orange, black, purple, green)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. Tint with food coloring if desired.
  5. Roll and Cut: Roll out the dough, cut into Halloween shapes, and place on baking sheets.
  6. Bake: Bake for 8–10 minutes until lightly golden. Cool on a rack.
  7. Prepare Icing: In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Tint with food coloring.
