Description

Indulge in the ultimate comfort food mashup with these Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes. The classic sloppy joe filling is sandwiched between layers of gooey cheddar cheese and perfectly grilled bread for a deliciously messy and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joes:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the Sandwiches:

  • 8 slices sandwich bread
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sloppy Joes: In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned and onion is soft, about 7–8 minutes. Drain excess fat. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches: Heat a separate skillet over medium heat. Butter one side of each bread slice. Place 4 slices butter-side down on the skillet, top each with a slice of cheddar cheese and a generous spoonful of sloppy joe mixture. Top with another slice of cheddar cheese and a second slice of bread, butter-side up.
  3. Grill the Sandwiches: Cook sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a twist, use different cheeses like pepper jack or mozzarella.
  • Add pickles or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Great for a hearty, fun lunch or dinner.
