Description

This Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Cheesy Smashed Potatoes recipe combines tender, juicy sirloin steak cubes seared in a rich garlic butter sauce with crispy, cheesy smashed potatoes for a delicious and satisfying meal perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 1/2 lbs sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Cheesy Smashed Potatoes:

  • 1 1/2 lbs baby potatoes (red or gold)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives or green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Place the baby potatoes in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15–20 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain and let cool slightly.
  2. Preheat the Oven and Prepare Potatoes: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the potatoes on the baking sheet and gently smash each one with the bottom of a glass or fork until flattened but still intact.
  3. Season and Roast Potatoes: Drizzle the smashed potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Roast in the oven for 20–25 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
  4. Add Cheese to Potatoes: Remove the potatoes from the oven and sprinkle evenly with shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese. Return to oven and roast for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with chopped chives or green onions, if using.
  5. Season the Steak: While the potatoes are roasting, season the sirloin steak cubes generously with salt and pepper.
  6. Sear the Steak Bites: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak bites in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Sear each side for 2–3 minutes until browned and cooked to your liking.
  7. Add Garlic Butter: Reduce heat to medium, add butter and minced garlic to the skillet. Stir continuously for 1–2 minutes, basting the steak with the garlic butter to infuse flavor.
  8. Finish and Garnish Steak: Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle the steak bites with fresh chopped parsley for a bright, fresh finish.
  9. Serve: Plate the garlic butter steak bites hot alongside the cheesy smashed potatoes and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Let steak rest at room temperature before cooking to ensure even browning.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce to the pan during the garlic butter step.
  • You can prep the potatoes ahead of time and roast them just before serving to save time.
