Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 round sourdough bread bowl (about 8 inches wide)
- 1 wheel of brie cheese (8 ounces)
Garlic Butter Mixture
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
Optional
- Extra bread or crackers for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it is ready for baking the brie and bread bowl evenly.
- Prepare Bread Bowl: Using a serrated knife, carefully cut a circle from the top of the sourdough bread bowl and remove the top piece. Hollow out enough bread from inside to fit the brie snugly without gaps.
- Insert Brie: Place the whole 8-ounce wheel of brie cheese inside the hollowed bread bowl, positioning it so it fits comfortably.
- Make Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant but not browned. Stir in chopped parsley, thyme, salt, and black pepper to combine.
- Pour Garlic Butter: Pour the prepared garlic butter evenly over the brie cheese and into the hollowed bread bowl so it soaks the bread and flavors the cheese.
- Wrap and Bake First Stage: Replace the bread top loosely on the bowl, then wrap the entire bread bowl in aluminum foil to retain moisture. Place it on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Bake Uncovered for Melted Brie: Remove the foil, take off the bread top, and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the brie cheese is fully melted, soft, and bubbly.
- Serve Warm: Remove from oven and serve immediately with extra bread pieces or crackers for dipping into the melted garlic butter brie mixture.
Notes
- You can assemble the bread bowl and brie with garlic butter ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to bake, making it ideal for planning ahead.
- For extra flavor, consider sprinkling crushed red pepper flakes on top before serving or drizzling honey over the melted brie for a sweet contrast.
