Description

Enjoy a classic fall treat with these crispy and flavorful Fried Apple Rings. Made with sweet and tart apples dipped in a cinnamon-spiced batter, fried to golden perfection, and coated in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, these apple rings are perfect as a dessert or snack any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Rings

  • 3 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Peel the apples and remove the cores using an apple corer. Slice the apples into 1/4-inch thick rings. Pat the rings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring the batter will adhere properly.
  2. Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a smooth batter forms without lumps.
  3. Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the correct temperature for even frying.
  4. Dip and Fry: Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place 2-3 rings at a time into the hot oil. Fry each side for about 1–2 minutes or until the rings turn a golden brown color.
  5. Drain and Coat: Remove the fried apple rings with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still warm, toss the rings in a shallow bowl with the cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  6. Serve: Serve the fried apple rings immediately for the best taste and texture. Optionally, accompany with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Serve with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
  • You can prepare the batter and slice the apples ahead to save time.
  • Best enjoyed fresh and warm for optimal crispiness and flavor.
