Ingredients
Scale
Apple Rings
- 3 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Peel the apples and remove the cores using an apple corer. Slice the apples into 1/4-inch thick rings. Pat the rings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring the batter will adhere properly.
- Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a smooth batter forms without lumps.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the correct temperature for even frying.
- Dip and Fry: Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place 2-3 rings at a time into the hot oil. Fry each side for about 1–2 minutes or until the rings turn a golden brown color.
- Drain and Coat: Remove the fried apple rings with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still warm, toss the rings in a shallow bowl with the cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat evenly.
- Serve: Serve the fried apple rings immediately for the best taste and texture. Optionally, accompany with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
Notes
- Serve with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
- You can prepare the batter and slice the apples ahead to save time.
- Best enjoyed fresh and warm for optimal crispiness and flavor.
