Description

French Dip Biscuits are a delicious twist on the classic French dip sandwich. Tender refrigerated biscuit dough is stuffed with savory deli roast beef and melted provolone cheese, baked until golden, and served with a flavorful homemade au jus dipping sauce. This recipe offers a quick and easy appetizer or meal that’s perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale

Biscuits

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuits (8 biscuits)
  • 1/2 lb deli roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Au Jus

  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Au Jus: In a small saucepan, whisk the au jus gravy mix with 1 cup of water over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and is heated through. Keep warm on low heat.
  3. Assemble the Biscuits: Lay out each biscuit round and place 1-2 slices of roast beef and 1 slice of provolone cheese in the center. Carefully fold the edges of the biscuit dough over the filling to form a sealed ball or bundle.
  4. Arrange for Baking: Place each stuffed biscuit seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet ensuring they are spaced evenly.
  5. Add Flavor and Bake: Brush the tops of the biscuits with the melted butter to ensure a golden crust. If desired, sprinkle garlic powder on top for extra flavor. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits turn golden brown and are cooked through.
  6. Serve with Au Jus: Remove biscuits from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm with the prepared au jus dipping sauce on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone with other meltable cheeses like mozzarella or Swiss for a different flavor profile.
  • Feel free to add caramelized onions or sautéed mushrooms inside the biscuits for extra texture and taste.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the biscuit filling.
  • Leftover au jus can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently before serving.
  • Make sure to seal the biscuit edges well to prevent cheese and beef from leaking during baking.
