Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients to form a dough.
  4. Make Spiced Sugar Coating: Combine 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Roll dough into balls, coat in the mixture, and place on baking sheets.
  5. Create Indentations: Press an indent into each cookie and bake for 8–10 minutes until set.
  6. Prepare Eggnog Filling: Cook eggnog and cornstarch in a saucepan until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in butter, powdered sugar, and nutmeg.
  7. Fill Cookies: Spoon warm eggnog filling into each cookie indentation.
