Description

A decadent and crispy dessert featuring creamy cheesecake filling wrapped in tortillas, deep fried to golden perfection and coated with cinnamon sugar. These deep fried cheesecake bites are quick to prepare, delightfully crunchy on the outside, and luscious on the inside, perfect for a crowd-pleasing American fair-style treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheesecake Filling

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Wraps

  • 6 small flour tortillas (6-inch)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Coating and Optional Toppings

  • 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar (1/2 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon)
  • Powdered sugar (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate sauce (optional)
  • Fruit preserves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheesecake Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and well combined.
  2. Assemble the Rolls: Lay out the six tortillas flat on a clean surface. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cheesecake filling onto the center of each tortilla. Fold in the sides and tightly roll up each tortilla like a burrito, sealing the edges with a little water if needed to keep the filling inside.
  3. Freeze the Rolls: Place the rolled tortillas seam-side down on a tray. Freeze them for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape and prevent them from opening during frying.
  4. Heat the Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pan and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the correct temperature for safe frying.
  5. Fry the Rolls: Carefully lower each frozen cheesecake roll into the hot oil. Fry each side for 2 to 3 minutes or until the rolls turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature.
  6. Drain and Coat: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried rolls from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still warm, gently roll the fried cheesecake bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture, ensuring an even coating.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately with your choice of optional toppings such as powdered sugar, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, or fruit preserves for an extra indulgent touch.

Notes

  • You can prepare and freeze the rolled cheesecake bites ahead of time for quick frying whenever desired.
  • Experiment with flavored cream cheese varieties like strawberry or chocolate for added flavor twists.
  • These are best enjoyed hot and fresh out of the fryer but can be reheated in an oven or air fryer if needed.
