Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 500 grams ground beef
- 1 finely chopped onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons curry powder
- 100 grams breadcrumbs (about 1 cup)
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sauce and Cooking
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 can (400 ml) coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
Instructions
- Prepare the meatball mixture: Gather all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and thoroughly combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, curry powder, breadcrumbs, chopped cilantro, salt, and pepper until evenly mixed.
- Shape the meatballs: Form the mixture into meatballs about 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter, arranging them on a plate ready for cooking.
- Brown the meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then cook the meatballs in batches for 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown on all sides and partially cooked through.
- Make the curry sauce: Using the same skillet, add the coconut milk and lime juice, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan to incorporate into the sauce, then let it simmer gently for 5 minutes.
- Finish cooking the meatballs: Return the browned meatballs to the skillet, coat them well in the coconut curry sauce, and let them simmer together for an additional 5 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and flavors melded before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground lamb or chicken for a different flavor profile.
- Adjust the amount of curry powder according to your spice preference.
- Serve this dish with steamed rice or flatbread for a complete meal.
- To keep the meatballs moist, avoid overmixing the meat mixture.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor in the sauce.
