Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract.
- Combine and Stir: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth and pourable—similar to pancake batter.
- Heat Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Transfer Batter: Transfer the batter to a squeeze bottle, piping bag with a large tip, or use a zip-top bag with a small corner snipped off.
- Fry: Carefully squeeze the batter into the hot oil in 4–5 inch straight lines or zigzag shapes to form “sticks.” Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Dust: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Immediately dust generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve: Serve warm.
Notes
- Add a pinch of cinnamon to the batter for a spiced twist.
- Funnel cake sticks are best served fresh but can be kept warm in a 200°F oven for up to 30 minutes.
- Serve with chocolate sauce, strawberry jam, or whipped cream for dipping.
