Description

Crispy Funnel Cake Sticks are a delightful twist on the classic fair treat. These fried sticks are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and dusted with a generous coating of powdered sugar. Perfect for a fun dessert or snack!

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Additional:

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then whisk in the milk and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine and Stir: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until smooth and pourable—similar to pancake batter.
  4. Heat Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Transfer Batter: Transfer the batter to a squeeze bottle, piping bag with a large tip, or use a zip-top bag with a small corner snipped off.
  6. Fry: Carefully squeeze the batter into the hot oil in 4–5 inch straight lines or zigzag shapes to form “sticks.” Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain and Dust: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Immediately dust generously with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve: Serve warm.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of cinnamon to the batter for a spiced twist.
  • Funnel cake sticks are best served fresh but can be kept warm in a 200°F oven for up to 30 minutes.
  • Serve with chocolate sauce, strawberry jam, or whipped cream for dipping.
