    Sausage & Potato Bake:

  • 1 lb (450g) smoked or Italian sausage, sliced
  • 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (optional for topping)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil.
  2. Cook the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sliced sausage for 5–6 minutes until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the cream mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, garlic, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer the ingredients: Layer half of the sliced potatoes, onions, and sausage in the baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the layers. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, sprinkle with shredded cheese (if using), and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  6. Rest and serve: Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for the cream.
  • You can also use turkey sausage or plant-based sausage for a different twist.
