- 1 lb (450g) smoked or Italian sausage, sliced
- 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold or russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese (optional for topping)
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil.
- Cook the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sliced sausage for 5–6 minutes until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the cream mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, garlic, thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Layer the ingredients: Layer half of the sliced potatoes, onions, and sausage in the baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the layers. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil, sprinkle with shredded cheese (if using), and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Rest and serve: Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for the cream.
- You can also use turkey sausage or plant-based sausage for a different twist.
