Ingredients
Scale
Peach Filling
- 6 cups fresh or frozen sliced peaches (peeled if fresh)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup whole milk
Other
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the cobbler.
- Cook Peach Mixture: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sliced peaches, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, and optional lemon juice. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the peaches soften and release syrup.
- Melt Butter: Place the 1/2 cup unsalted butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven until fully melted, ensuring it coats the bottom evenly.
- Make Batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir in the whole milk until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
- Assemble Cobbler: Carefully remove the baking dish with melted butter from the oven. Pour the batter evenly over the butter without stirring. Then, spoon the warm peach mixture and syrup evenly over the batter without mixing.
- Bake: Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, until the cobbler top turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the batter comes out clean.
- Cool & Serve: Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For crispier edges, sprinkle extra sugar on top before baking.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added indulgence.
- You can substitute canned peaches in juice; reduce sugar slightly to compensate for added sweetness.
