Description

This Citrus Herb Turkey Breast recipe features a juicy and flavorful roasted turkey breast infused with fresh herbs, garlic, and bright citrus notes from orange and lemon zest and juice. Perfect for a holiday meal or special dinner, the turkey is roasted with aromatic herbs and citrus, resulting in a moist, tender, and golden bird complemented by pan juices.

Ingredients

Scale

Turkey and Marinade

  • 3 pounds boneless or bone-in turkey breast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Juice of 1 orange
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for roasting the turkey breast evenly.
  2. Prepare Turkey: Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels to ensure the herb mixture adheres well. Place the turkey breast in a roasting dish or pan ready for seasoning.
  3. Mix Herb Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic, chopped rosemary, thyme, parsley, salt, black pepper, paprika, orange zest, and lemon zest. Mix thoroughly to create a flavorful herb butter.
  4. Rub Turkey: Spread the herb butter mixture evenly over the entire turkey breast, coating all sides to maximize flavor infusion during roasting.
  5. Prepare Roasting Pan: Place the sliced onion at the bottom of the roasting pan to add aroma and moisture. Set the seasoned turkey breast on top of the onions.
  6. Add Juices and Broth: Pour the fresh orange juice, lemon juice, and chicken broth around the turkey in the pan, which will help keep the meat moist and create flavorful pan juices.
  7. Roast Turkey: Roast the turkey uncovered for 60 to 75 minutes. Occasionally spoon the pan juices over the turkey to baste and keep it juicy. Roast until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the skin is golden.
  8. Rest and Serve: Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Slice the turkey and serve with the pan juices drizzled on top.

Notes

  • Fresh citrus zest adds bright flavor, but bottled juice can be used if fresh citrus is unavailable.
  • For extra flavor, add a few orange or lemon slices to the roasting pan alongside the sliced onion.
  • This dish pairs well with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or rice for a complete meal.
