Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cinnamon Sugar Filling
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line it with paper liners to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and fully incorporated.
- Make the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the muffins tender.
- Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon thoroughly to create the filling mixture.
- Layer Batter and Cinnamon Sugar: Fill each muffin cup halfway with the batter. Sprinkle a generous amount of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter in each cup. Add the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle more cinnamon sugar for an extra swirl of flavor.
- Add Butter Dots: Dot the tops of each muffin with softened butter to add richness and help create the classic cinnamon roll texture.
- Bake the Muffins: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean indicating they are fully baked.
- Prepare the Glaze: While the muffins are cooling slightly, whisk together the powdered sugar, 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
- Glaze and Serve: Drizzle the glaze evenly over the warm muffins and serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the cinnamon sugar mixture to add crunchy texture.
- For best flavor, serve the muffins warm right out of the oven.
- Leftovers can be quickly reheated in the microwave for a convenient warm treat.
