Ingredients
For the Cake:
1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients called for on the box (usually eggs, oil, and water);
For the Topping:
1 package (11 oz) caramels, unwrapped; 1/2 cup evaporated milk, divided; 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted; 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips; 1 cup chopped pecans; 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Cake: Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the package instructions. Pour half of the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Topping: Melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat until smooth.
- Layer the Cake: Pour the melted caramel over the partially baked cake. Add pecans and chocolate chips. Pour the remaining cake batter over the top.
- Bake: Return the cake to the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool slightly before serving.
