Description

Chicken Pillows are a deliciously creamy and crispy baked dish featuring tender shredded chicken mixed with cream cheese and herbs, wrapped in buttery crescent roll dough, coated in Italian breadcrumbs, and baked to golden perfection. Finished with a savory chicken gravy, these pillows make a comforting and satisfying meal perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 10 ounces cooked, shredded chicken breast (about 2 cups)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 Tablespoon salted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 Tablespoon dried chives
  • 1/2 Tablespoon dried minced onion
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Dough and Coating

  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated Pillsbury crescent roll dough
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs

Gravy

  • 1 can (10 ounces) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) chicken gravy mix
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Sheet: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet with non-stick spray and set aside.
  2. Make the Filling: In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and 1 tablespoon of softened butter until combined. Add the shredded chicken, dried chives, dried minced onion, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Prepare Crescent Dough: Unroll the refrigerated crescent dough and press together two triangles to form one rectangle, ensuring perforations are sealed well to prevent filling leakage. Repeat to create 4 rectangles in total.
  4. Assemble Chicken Pillows: Divide the chicken filling evenly among the 4 crescent dough rectangles, placing the filling in the center of each. Fold each corner over the center to fully enclose the filling, pressing edges to seal and shaping each into a ball.
  5. Coat the Pillows: Dip each chicken pillow into the melted butter, then roll in Italian breadcrumbs to coat evenly. Shake off any excess breadcrumbs and place the coated pillows on the greased baking sheet.
  6. Bake the Pillows: Bake in the preheated oven for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the chicken pillows are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Prepare Chicken Gravy: While the pillows bake, combine the cream of chicken soup, chicken gravy mix, and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer until the pillows are done baking.
  8. Serve: Once baked, pour the warm chicken gravy over the chicken pillows and serve immediately. Enjoy your comforting chicken pillows!

Notes

  • Make sure to firmly press perforations on crescent dough to avoid filling leakage during baking.
  • You can substitute fresh chives and onion if preferred for a fresher flavor.
  • For a crispier coating, try baking the pillows on a wire rack placed over the baking sheet.
  • Leftover chicken pillows can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for best texture.
  • If desired, add extra herbs or spices to the chicken filling to customize flavor.
