Description

A flavorful Italian-inspired bread dipping oil made with a blend of dried herbs and spices combined with extra virgin olive oil. Perfect as a restaurant-style appetizer served alongside warm crusty bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Herb and Spice Mix

  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed fennel seeds (optional)

Oil

  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Mix the Herbs and Spices: In a small bowl, combine the dried basil, parsley, rosemary, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, black pepper, kosher salt, granulated garlic or garlic powder, onion powder, and crushed fennel seeds if using. Stir until the mixture is evenly blended.
  2. Assemble the Dip: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the prepared herb and spice mixture onto a small plate. Drizzle 2 to 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil over the top of the mixture.
  3. Let Flavors Meld: Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes so the herbs and spices can infuse into the olive oil, enhancing the flavor.
  4. Serve: Serve the dipping oil with warm crusty Italian or sourdough bread for an authentic restaurant-style appetizer experience.

Notes

  • The dry spice mix can be prepared in advance and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
  • For added richness, sprinkle a little grated Parmesan or chopped fresh garlic onto the dipping oil before serving.
  • This dip pairs best with Italian or sourdough bread.
