Description

Fresh and vibrant Caprese Skewers featuring juicy cherry tomatoes, creamy fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil leaves, drizzled with balsamic glaze and extra virgin olive oil. A perfect no-cook Italian appetizer that’s quick to assemble and ideal for parties or light snacking.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves

Dairy

  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine), drained

Condiments and Seasonings

  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Others

  • 16 small wooden skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Rinse and pat dry the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves to remove any moisture which could dilute the flavors and prevent the ingredients from sliding off the skewers.
  2. Assemble Skewers: Thread one cherry tomato, one folded basil leaf (if large), and one mozzarella ball onto each skewer. If your skewers are longer, you may repeat the layering for more substantial bites, or keep them to one set per skewer for easy-to-eat appetizers.
  3. Arrange and Season: Lay out the skewers neatly on a serving platter. Drizzle evenly with extra virgin olive oil followed by balsamic glaze. Sprinkle lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavors.
  4. Serve or Chill: Serve the skewers immediately for the best fresh taste, or refrigerate them for up to 2 hours to allow flavors to meld before serving.

Notes

  • For enhanced flavor, marinate mozzarella balls in olive oil, minced garlic, and Italian herbs for 30 minutes prior to assembling.
  • Using heirloom cherry tomatoes can add more vibrant color and a sweeter taste.
  • These skewers are best served fresh but can be chilled briefly without compromising texture or taste.
