- 1 pound (450g) large prawns, peeled and deveined (tails on optional)
Sauces and Oils
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce or sambal oelek

- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1–2 red chilies, finely sliced (adjust to taste)
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish
To Serve
- Steamed jasmine rice
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and chili garlic sauce. Mix well and set aside.
- Heat the oils and aromatics: Heat vegetable oil and sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced red chilies, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Cook the prawns: Add the prawns in a single layer to the skillet. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, just until they begin to turn pink and are partially cooked through.
- Add the sauce and finish cooking: Pour the prepared sauce over the prawns. Toss to coat evenly, then continue cooking for another 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the prawns are fully cooked.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat. Garnish with sliced green onions and chopped fresh cilantro. Serve immediately hot over steamed jasmine rice.
Notes
- For extra heat, increase the amount of chili garlic sauce or add crushed red pepper flakes.
- Substitute shrimp for prawns if preferred or more readily available.
- Pair this dish with stir-fried vegetables or noodles for a complete meal.
