Ingredients
Scale
Batter
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
Topping
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard loaf pan to ensure the bread doesn’t stick after baking.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and light. Then add the eggs one at a time along with the vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to combine evenly.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter.
- Fold in apples: Gently fold the peeled and chopped apples into the batter ensuring even distribution without overmixing.
- Pour batter into pan: Transfer the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly to the edges.
- Add cinnamon sugar topping: In a small bowl, mix together the ground cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the loaf pan.
- Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 60–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top begins to brown too quickly, tent the bread with aluminum foil to prevent burning and continue baking.
- Cool and serve: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use firm, tart apples such as Granny Smith for the best texture and flavor.
- Make sure butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming with sugar.
- To prevent the topping from burning, tent with foil if it browns too fast.
- Ensure the bread is fully cooled before slicing to avoid crumbling.
- Store leftovers tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
